Incidents of women creating public nuisance in inebriated state is rising in the city. One more such case was reported from Raipur police station area on Friday in which a 25-year- old Nepali national who is currently living in Nehru Colony created public nuisance near Ring Road, Raipur. After complaints from the locals, the police brought her to the police station. later, a medical test was done on her following which it was ascertained that she had consumed liquor.
Police sources said that she has been living with her husband in Nehru Colony area. Her husband was informed and sent for by police. She was released from the police station after she was challaned under Police Act, said a Raipur police station officer.
Earlier, some women were found misbehaving with police station officers in drunken state. In some cases, they were found complaining of harassment against strangers.
Several such cases were reported in the State capital in the recent past. Police had recently arrested a woman along with her boy friend on the charge of creating public nuisance outside Gandhi Park. In another incident, a tourist from Delhi touring Mussoorie had registered a complaint against the driver of the car she was travelling in while she was drunk at Araghar police post. Police had arrested the accused driver and sent him to jail. Near Clock Tower in Dehradun, a woman had slapped a policeman when the cop had tried to take her to the police station after she was caught creating public nuisance under the influence of liquor. Her medical test was done following which it was ascertained that she was drunk. She was later sent to rehabilitation centre after being presented in the court.
Police say they are worried over the rise in such incidents. What is more, security of such women remains vulnerable when they are in the public places, betraying that they are drunk. However, police plead their inability to do much on such matters except restoring order when it is disturbed and handing such women over to their family members. “We cannot do social policing. The issue is a social one and the society as a whole and, particularly, the families must come forward to end such a menace which is now assuming appalling proportions. The trend is new in Dehradun. It was unimaginable a few years back. Now, we are grappling with such matters at regular intervals,” said a senior police officer posted in Dehradun.
