Admin to meet hostel wardens

Wednesday, 30 November 2016 | Mukesh Ranjan | Ranchi

Following rampage at Mahatma Gandhi Marg by youths during a day-long bandh called by Opposition parties on Friday, district administration will hold a meeting with the wardens of all tribal hostels on Wednesday seeking data of the students staying in it. Apparently, students from Adiwasi Hostel, loyola Hostel and St. Xavier’s College Hostels took part in the protest and ransacked Mahatma Gandhi Marg thrashing commuters, breaking the windscreen of vehicles and four wheelers — whatever came in their way.

“A meeting has been called with the wardens of all tribal hostels in Ranchi where they will be asked to provide every detail of the students living in their hostels.

We will also try to find out that whether students living in these hostels were all college students or some of the pass-out students have also been living in those hostels,” said Ranchi DC Manoj Kumar. Notices will be issued against them once the meeting takes place and details of students gathered from them, he added.

“Meanwhile, students who took part in the rampage are being identified on the basis of video footage available with us and notices of Section 107 of IPC are being issued against them,” said the DC. A search campaign might also be launched in those hostels, if they fail to satisfy the administration, said the DC.

Taking swift action against protesters police have also lodged seven FIRs against 37 named and several other unknown persons in different police Stations in the city. Police are also trying to identify the protesters on basis of the video footage so that action could be taken against them.

“Seven FIRs in different police stations of Ranchi have been lodged against 37 named and several others unknown persons who took part in the rampage on Friday,” said SP City Kaushal Kishore. All 37 accused persons have been lodged in the four FIRs while no any person have been named in the three FIRs, he added.

“Named FIRs have been lodged in Pandra, Daily Market and Hindpiri Police Stations while unnamed FIRs have been lodge in Pandra, lower Bazaar and Kotwali Police Stations,” said SP City.

The respective police stations have forwarded their application seeking warrant of the named persons in the Court.

“Here at Hindpiri Police Station, five persons have been named in the FIR which includes Md Shakeel, Md Aftaab, Chunnu Khan, Chintamani Devi and Rani. An application seeking warrant against them has been forwarded to the court,” said officer in charge of Hindnpiri Police Station.
