The 100 Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas (OAVs), which started functioning in the State since April 1, 2016, have not got residential school status by now, informed School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra in the State Assembly on Thursday.
Replying to a question of Congress MlA Chiranjib Biswal and additional questions of a host of MlAs, the Minister stated that a 100-bed capacity girl hostel is now being constructed at every Adarash Vidyalaya, and on completion of the hostels, girls students would be given boarding facility.
Stating that the State Government is committed to established an Adarsha Vidyalaya in each of 314 blocks, the Minister said funds had been sanctioned for establishment of 111 schools in the first phase and, of them, 100 schools have started functioning.
Classes from VI to VII have begun in these schools and students have been taken on the basis of reservation. While nearly 39 per cent reservation have been made for SC and ST students, three per cent are reserved for the Physically Challenged students.
As per the provision, 50 per cent seats have been reserved for girls in each category. While MlAs can give recommendation for admission of two students, the Minister informed. Besides, preference are being given in admission to the wards of OAV employees on a priority basis.
All students will be taken through entrance tests to be conducted in February/March of every year, he said.
The Minister further informed that the State Government has estimated to establish the ORVs in all blocks at a total cost of Rs2,628 crore in phased manner. The Central Government has stopped giving funds for the purpose, said the Minister.
