ABVP bags president's post in SGRR (PG) students' union election

Kuldeep Pant from Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won the presidential post while Aryan Group candidate Vipin Bhatt was elected to the post of general secretary in the SGRR (PG) College students' union election, held on Tuesday.

The polling begun by 9 am amid tight security and continued till 1 pm. The counting of votes started 2.30 pm and results were declared by around 5 pm, said college chief election officer AK Gupta.

Students were seen standing in long queue outside polling booths with the start of polling process in the college. A total of 2699 voters were listed in the voter’s list. College was abuzz with activities. Candidates and their supporters were shouting slogans outside the college campus in the favour of their candidates.

The district administration had made elaborate security arrangements. Dozens of policemen were deputed and one fire tender was also deployed at college campus to meet any exigency during polling. A total of 1581 voters had exercised their vote in this election.

Victory procession was carried out by winner candidates after results were declared, which went off peacefully. Kuldeep Pant became winner by securing 761 votes while Abhishek Dobriyal was runner up by securing 508 votes and Darshita Rawat got third position with 300 votes. Karan Singh won the election on the post of vice president and he secured 841 votes followed by Yash Bhatiya with 444 votes and Suraj Nainwal with 314 votes. Vipin Bhatt won the election on the post of general secretary with 824 votes while Deepa Rawat was runner up with 719 votes. Akansha Saini won the election on the post of joint secretary with 854 votes while Shalini Dhyani secured 682 votes on the same post.

Deepali Gusain won and secured 1013 votes on the post of treasurer while Ashish Gaur who was runner up, got 523 votes. Girish Bhatt won the election on the post of university representative with 737 votes while Devika Narula who was runner up, got 535 votes and Vaishali Bhatt stood third position with 294 votes.

Simran Tomar secured 517 votes, won the election on the post of post graduation female representative. Gaurangana Kshetri secured 332 votes. Posts on Student under graduate representative (art and science) were won by Rishi Raj and Shubham Uniyal unopposed respectively, said election officer.
