In a major decision, a Janupur court awarded death sentence to a convict in the Shramjeevi Express blast case which left 14 dead and 90 others injured on July 28, 2005.
Though the decision came after 11 years, yet it is hailed as a major step towards sending a strong message for the fight against terrorism.

A total of 56 witnesses deposed for Babu Bhai while 53 testified forRoni. The blast occurred in the general coach of New Delhi -bound
Shramjeevi Express at Hariharpur crossing between Harpalganj and Koiripur railway stations of Jaunpur district just a fortnight away
from Independence Day in 2005.
The probe headed by then ADG (Railways) BK Bhalla found that terrorists from Bangladesh - Obaid-ur-Rehman alias Babu Bhai, Nafikul
Biswas, Sohag Khan alias Hilal alias Hilaluddin, Mohamammad Alamgir alias Roni, Doctor Sayeed, Mohammad Sharif and Gulam Rajdani were the executors of the sinister plan which was hatched in Rajsahi in Bangladesh.
The police is yet to track down Doctor Sayeed while Gulam Rajdani was killed in an encounter. Mohammad Sharif has been absconding after theblast and the probe agencies have sought help from Interpol. Four accused - Obaid-ur-Rehman, Hilaluddin, Nafikul and Alamgir were
arrested by the police. But later Hilaluddin and Nakiful were shifted to Hyderabad in connection with another terror strike and hence their
trial was yet to be started.
