A seven-day Brahmapur Mahotsav, jointly organised by the Mahan Sangha and the Brahmapur Mahotsav Committee, got underway at the Khallikote University Stadium here on Thursday evening.
The festival, which is on its seventh edition, had former Union Minister Braja Kishore Tripathy, Brahmapur University Vice-Chancellor Prof Deepak Behera, BDA Chairman Subash Moharana, Congress Ganjam district Bhagban Gantayat and Deputy Mayor Jyotsna Nayak as guests.
Around 50 stalls have been opened at the festival ground. On the inaugural evening, solo and group dance performances on Mahari and Odishi were presented by local artistes and troupes from various places. Besides, Chhau and Ghumura dance performances would be presented during the seven-day extravaganza. Various competitions are also lined up for the event, said Mahan Sangh president Sushant Sabat.
Sangha working president Prasant Patro, women wing chief J Nagamani and secretary Namita Rath were present, among others.
