A total of 6,263 teacher posts against 43,282 sanctioned posts are lying vacant in Government high schools in the State now.
School and Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra informed this in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJP member Dr Bibhuti Bhushan Harichandan on Friday. It was revealed that 24,543 out of 25,041 regular teachers and 12,486 out of 18,241 contractual teachers are on the job against the total sanctioned posts. While the highest number of 160 regular teacher posts is lying vacant in different Government schools in Bhadrak district, highest number of 536 contractual teachers vacant in Ganjam district. There is no regular teacher post vacant in Gajapati and Puri districts, while the lowest number of 40 contractual teachers vacant in Boudh district.
In a related question of BJP MlA Dilip Ray, the Minister informed that are 8,326 high schools (both Government and Government-aided), 34,999 primary schools and 20,148 upper primary schools are operating in the State. Besides, 1,345 high schools, 1743 primary and 2604 upper primary schools are operating in private level.
As many as 41,688 primary and upper primary schools and 373 high schools have no rooms per each class. There is one classroom for two classes in as many as 122 high schools, the Minister said.
