5% fee hike for PU

The Panjab University (PU) Syndicate has approved a five per cent fee hike for all PU affiliated degree college for the session 2016-17. The fee would be hiked upto maximum of `1200 and minimum of `500 per annum.

PU Syndicate in its meeting held here also approved the PU non-plan budget and Board of Finance (BoF) decisions.

The budget would now be considered by the PU Senate. The budget estimate has envisaged expenditure of `517.33 crore and income of `210.61 crore. `5 crore has been provided for construction of new girl’s hostel no 10, `5 crore for securing proposed land at Sarangpur, said an official spokesperson of PU.

He said that the Syndicate also approved a sum of `150 lakh to start construction of Regional Centre Muktsar, `75 lakh for additional parking facility in PU Campus and ` 126.21 lakh for upgrading, widening of the road near the gate no. 3 sector 14 for making it one way and recarpeting top layer of road in South Campus.

In view of recent unrest in Haryana, Panjab University (PU) has extended the last date for enrollment as voter in the PU Graduate Constituency upto March 31.

All the PU Graduates can now apply on prescribed form upto March 31, 2016.The PU Syndicate took this decision on the request from Haryana Graduates in a meeting held here on Sunday. Earlier the last date was upto February 29, said the spokesman.

PU Syndicate also approved the qualifications for the post of chief security officer, deputy registrar and assistant registrar. The PU Syndicate also decided to forward the enquiry report about a faculty member to the Senate for consideration. The PU Syndicate approved and ratified the minutes of the committee regarding the changes in the Panjab University Committee against Sexual Harassment (PUCASH).

The Syndicate meeting was adjourned and the pending items would be taken up in the next Syndicate meeting on March 14.
