A 22-year-old engineering student was duped to the tune to Rs 30,000 by two miscreants at Punjab National Bank branch at Apsara talkies under Aishbagh police station area on Wednesday.
According to the police, the victim Manoj Prajapati had gone to deposit Rs 30000 cash in his account and was duped by the miscreants who fraudulently exchanged genuine currency notes with fake notes of Rs 1.5 lakh.
A complaint was lodged with the Aishbagh police and in the compliant victim stated that two youths came to him and asked for pen later they offered him to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh but as they were not having any bank account they requested to deposit the money using victim’s account as his relative requires the money urgently and offered him Rs 1.5 lakh against Rs 30000 lured by the offer victim provided the money. After the miscreants escaped with the money when the victim checked the money the currency notes were found fake except the first and last currency notes used to conceal the fake notes.
The shocked victim searched for the miscreants but failed to find them and later lodged a complaint with the police. Police said that the CCTV footages of the camera would be searched which could help in the investigation to establish the identity of the miscreants. The police have registered a case under section 420 of the IPC and have started search for the miscreant.
Customers and officials of the bank would be questioned which could help in the investigation claimed the police. Victim is student of second year engineering with Rajiv Gandhi College.
