PUNJAB BAGS 3RD POSITION IN NATIONAl SCHOOl GAMES

Chandigarh: Punjab has improved its grades in the 61st National School games by claiming overall 3rd position with the players getting 109 gold, 134 sliver and 140 bronze medals and registered 388 medals in the total medal tally. Punjab Stood 4th in the previous 60th National School Games and this year Punjab grabbed 3rd position defeating Haryana. The trophy was handed over to the Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Wednesday by Deputy Director (Physical Education) which was awarded to Punjab during the annual meeting of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).  Cheema extended his greeting to the players and credited the success to strenuous training regime of players, coaches and the support of school staff and sports wing.

HARYANA CHANGES IN TEACHERS TRANSFER POlICY

Chandigarh: Haryana Education Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma on Wednesday said that certain diseases have been notified as ‘diseases of debilitating disorder under the new Teachers Transfer Policy-2016. Teachers who are suffering from any such disease would be entitled for special concession in transfer as per the provisions. He said that the concession would also be applicable to teachers whose dependents are suffering from the notified diseases. The diseases include chronic heart diseases and chronic artery diseases, chronic renal failure, brain tumours and malignancy of different organs, paraplegia, quadriplegia or hemiplegia, Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson’s Disease. Similarly, Thalassemia, Haemophilia, Aplastic Anaemia, Myelodysplastic disorders, AIDS and diseases concerning liver and kidney transplant have also been included, he added.

UT BUREAUCRATS TO ATTEND WORlD HERITAGE MEET

Chandigarh: The Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh has allowed Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, Sarvjit Singh, Secretary Urban Planning, Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, to attend the 40th Session of the World Heritage Committee to be held at Istanbul (Turkey) from 14th to 19th July, 2016, subject to cadre clearance and political clearance from Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs, respectively.

CHD begins AADHAR lINKED BIRTH REGISTRATION

Chandigarh: Aadhaar based Birth Registration has been started in Chandigarh. Tablets and Authentication Devices have been provided to all the Government Hospitals for Aadhaar registration of new born children along with Birth Registration Certification. On the first day, 26 Aadhaar and Birth Registrations have been done. UT of Chandigarh has become the second State after Haryana to start Aadhaar linked Birth Registration. Private Hospitals will be starting the Aadhaar Registrations on the same grounds shortly.

KIRAN CHOUDHRY DEMANDS ROllBACK IN BUS FARE HIKE

Chandigarh: Flaying Haryana Cabinet’s decision to impose a 10 percent hike in bus fares in the state, Kiran Choudhry, leader of Haryana Congress legislature Party has said that the people are being forced to pay for inefficiency and wasteful expenditure of the transport department. Demanding a rollback from the Chief Minister Manohar lal, the former excise and taxation minister said the proposal of the Transport Department attributed the hike in ordinary bus fares to the increase in operational cost. The operation cost has gone up due to the inefficient handling of the affairs by the department. “And instead of giving relief to the general public in the wake of substantial fall in crude oil prices in the international market, the government is out to make a quick buck,” she remarked. The ordinary bus fare in Haryana will now be increased by 10 paisa per passenger per kilometer. With this, the fare will increase from 60 paise per kilometer to 68 paise per passenger per km and chargeable fare accordingly, will increase from 75 to 85 paise per passenger per km. This includes 25 per cent Passenger Tax.

CHANDIGARH PREPARES TO COMBAT MAlARIA

Chandigarh: As a preparatory activity for control of Malaria and Dengue in the coming season, the Malaria wing of Health Department, UT-Chandigarh organized Health Awareness camp at Vill. Khuda Ali Sher on Wednesday. The awareness camp was attended by Dr. Inderpal Singh-Epidemiologist, Dr. Tanvi Behal (Medical Officer) and staff from the Malaria wing, opinion leaders and general public from the area. Dr. Inderpal Singh stressed on active community participation at all levels to prevent occurrence of mosquitogenic situation in the area. He outlined the preventive steps for this purpose and assured continuance of anti larval and anti adult measures for mosquitoes with full zeal in the season. He also urged all to maintain vigil over the water borne diseases in the area.

VERKA lAUNCHES FREEZER ON WHEElS

Chandigarh: Verka, on Wednesday, launched new Freezer on Wheels that will serve company products in your neighborhood. The new varieties of candies will also be available at Freezer on wheels. Verka has planned to launch 100 Freezer on Wheels carts in Chandigarh area. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Chairman, MIlKFED flagged off the Verka Freezer on Wheels carts in Chandigarh. Speaking on the occasion he said “the reason of launching Freezer on wheels is to make the brand more approachable and accessible to the consumer. We want to make Verka the most loved brand for ice creams like our other products.”

GD Goenka University announces admissions

Chandigarh: The G.D. Goenka University has announced admissions to its Engineering and Management programmes for the 2016-17 session. The University offers a range of engineering programmes, including B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechatronics. Besides this, the University also offers high-end M Tech courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Production Engineering, Power System Engineering, VlSI Design, Energy and Environmental Engineering.

Axis Bank launches ‘Thought Factory’

Chandigarh: Axis Bank announced the launch of ‘Thought Factory’ an innovation lab facility aimed at accelerating the development of innovative technology solutions for the banking sector. With this launch, Axis Bank becomes the first Indian bank to introduce a dedicated innovation lab in the country. The Bank is experimenting with emerging technologies such as block chain, artificial intelligence, mobility, and cloud to bring about disruptions across functions including Credits, Deposits, Wealth Management, Mobile Payments, and Security etc.

Idea launches ‘Internet For All’ initiative

Chandigarh: Aiming to connect millions of internet non-users and bring them online, Idea Cellular has announced an “Internet For All” programme. This empowers all the Idea prepaid consumers and retailers to give one month of free Internet access to Internet non-users just by logging on to http://i4all.ideacellular.com from their smartphones. They can gift free 100 MB data for a month by entering the Idea mobile number of non-internet users.  Idea personalizes this service by sending periodic information on how to use free data to the non-data user and providing various ways to latch onto the internet. The notifications are also sent to the initiator on the progress of internet usage made by the person nominated by them. As a small token of gratitude, Idea credits 100MB of data to the initiator’s account.
