The storage capacity of 91 major reservoirs of the country plummeted further to 21 per cent of the total storage capacity. This was 64 per cent last year and 77 per cent of storage of average of the last ten years.
The northern region, including the States of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan with six reservoirs has 3.81 BCM of water which is 21 per cent of total live storage capacity of these reservoirs.
The eastern region having 15 reservoirs has 5.58 BCM which is 30 per cent of total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. It includes the States of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Tripura.
The water level in 27 reservoirs in the western region of the country is 4.76 BCM which is 18 per cent of total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. These cater to the States of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Central region with 12 reservoirs has 11.67 BCM of water which is 28 per cent of total live storage capacity of these reservoirs.
