In what could leave many medical aspirants in lurch, the Union Health Ministry, as per direction of the Supreme Court appointed Oversight Committee, on Thursday issued a notification to keep in abeyance the conditional permission given to the medical colleges which have failed to ensure required education standard norms.
The Ministry, apparently washing its hands of from the issue, has asked the students seeking admission in such colleges to find themselves from their websites if such colleges have fulfilled the norms or not.
The Ministry has also asked the States and UTs to not allow admission in such colleges if they have failed to meet the requisite norms.
Over 100 colleges in question are those who had failed the MCI ‘assessment test’ because of shortage of human resources and infrastructure in May but were given conditional approval by the OC last month.
The OC led by former Chief Justice of India Justice RM lodha which was formed to oversee the functioning of the MCI had asked the colleges to fulfill the criteria by September 26.
