A day after the Madras High Court expressed its displeasure known over the way the Government of Tamil Nadu handled the hospitalisation and medical treatment of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the leader of the Opposition and DMK leader MK Stalin has demanded a comprehensive investigation by a sitting judge of the High Court into the kind of medical treatment provided to the late Chief Minister and the reasons behind her unexpected death. With Stalin coming out on Friday demanding a thorough probe into the death of Jayalalithaa, the issue has snowballed into a major controversy in Tamil Nadu. EVKS Elangovan, former TNCC president and senior Congress leader too has demanded a comprehensive probe into the death of Jayalalithaa. Justice S Vaidyanathan of the Madras HC, while admitting a Public Interest litigation filed by PA Joseph, a member of the AIADMK, had said on Thursday that death of Jayalalithaa was mired in secrecy and mystery.
“The State Government has failed to clear the doubts even after her death. Should her body be exhumed to know the truth,” the judge had asked. Stalin, in a statement released to the media on Friday, said the Madras High Court would not have commented like this had the Tamil Nadu Government explained the true status of the health of Jayalalithaa to the people of the State. “The Government did not issue a single press release about the health condition of the late chief minister or release pictures of her getting treatment in the hospital. What is the reason behind this kind of secrecy,IJ” asked Stalin in the statement.
