Having arrested a Pune-based Income Tax officer for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for passing a favourable order on tax liability, the CBI has seized Rs 5.04 lakh cash, 350 grams gold, documents relating to two flats in Pune, 4.5 acres of land, bank accounts and one bank locker, during searches conducted on his office and residential premises.

A CBI spokesperson said on Friday that the Agency laid a trap and caught the Income Tax Officer red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complaint for passing a favourable order on the latter’s tax liability.

The CBI identified the arrested income officer as

one Rajendra B Dond, an Income Tax officer working at I-T department’s Swargate office.

Dond allegedly demanded an alleged illegal gratification of Rs 2 lakh from the complaint, but scaled down the demand to Rs 1 lakh.

In searches conducted by them at Dond’s office and residence, the CBI seized a cash of Rs 5,04,030, 4 gold biscuits weighing 350 grams, documents relating to two flats in Pune and 4.5 acres land at Solapur, nine bank accounts and one bank locker. The investigators have yet to open the bank locker.

The CBI registered a case against Dond under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It produced Dond before a special court on Friday.
