Chhattisgarh has just three hospitals accredited by National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare (NABH) which fulfill fire safety measures as per the Government rules and regulations as on November 25, 2016, a Central Government data has revealed.
Health is a State subject and as such no such information is maintained centrally.
However, there are news reports of some fire incidents in hospitals in various States, it stated. As informed by National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare (NABH), NABH accredited hospitals are required to fulfill fire safety measures as per the Government rules and regulations.
NABH has also informed that as on November 25, 2016 only 510 hospitals in the country are NABH accredited.
Since Public Health and hospitals is a State subject, it is the responsibility of State/UT Government to ensure adherence of healthcare facilities to safety norms including fire safety.
However, this Union Health Ministry has taken note of recent fire incident in a private hospital in the State of Odisha and the Ministry has issued advisory to all State/UTs on October 21, 2016 and also circulated provisions on fire safety in the Unified Building Bye laws 2016, Delhi and National Building Code for guidance/reference, it informed.
