Prompted by the Opposition National Conference (NC) to spell out the security situation in Jammu & Kashmir in the backdrop of the recent suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy at Pampore and growing incidents of infiltration across the line of Control (loC), the State Government will issue a statement on the last day of the Budget Session of the Assembly on Thursday.
leader of Opposition Omar Abdullah on Wednesday ridiculed the PDP-BJP alliance for hoodwinking the House on the crucial security situation in the State. “It is important for the Government to take the House into confidence over the emerging security situation in the State,” Abdullah said during zero hour in the Assembly.
He said, the legislators are responsible people and they must know the truth about the security situation in the State. “What is the reality on the infiltrationIJ” Abdullah asked.
He said the legislators come to know through the newspapers that CRPF would be relieved from road opening responsibility or the Border Security Force (BSF) would again take over the charge of internal security from the CRPF. “We are not irresponsible. Why should we get the details through the newspapers,” he asked.
He said the Amarnath yatra or tourism season were temporary phases but the security of people living in the State round the year was crucial and of paramount importance.
“The Chief Minister must come to the Assembly and brief us on the actual security situation,” Abdullah said. “We don’t need an impromptu statement but a detailed written briefing,” he said.
later, deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh told the House that the Government would come up with a detailed statement on the security scenario on Wednesday.
Singh said that the worsening security situation in the State is due to a perpetual proxy war unleashed from across the border. “We will take all the necessary security measures whether for the upcoming Amarnath yatra or the ongoing tourist season,” Singh said.
He said the incidents like Pampore can be repeated because the proxy war was going on in the State.
Meanwhile, a three member team of the Ministry of Home Affairs reviewed the security situation in the aftermath of Pampore attack. The team arrived here Tuesday evening for two-day visit to assess the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) connected to various situations in Kashmir.
The team arrived at the instructions of Home Minister Rajnath Singh to review the situation in the wake of cross- loC infiltration and the upcoming Amarnath yatra, that is starting from July 2.
Besides Secretary Border Management Sushil Kumar, the other members of the team include Special Secretary Internal Security Mahesh Kumar Singla and Joint Secretary (Kashmir Affairs) Gyanesh Kumar. The team will later submit a detailed report to Union Home Minister.
Sources said that Kumar-led team visited Pampore in south Kashmir, where lashkar-e-Tayyeba militants ambushed a CRPF bus, killing 8 personnel and injuring 22 others on June 25. The team also visited Bijbehara, where a similar attack on June 3 killed three Border Security Force jawans. The team also visited Entrepreneurship Development Institute building at Pampore, where a 3-day standoff between militants and security forces in February this year resulted in death of three captain-rank paratrooper commandos, two CRPF personnel, one civilian and three militants.
