In wake of the upcoming Assembly polls in Gujarat to be held in the second half of 2017, the Congress party has decided to finalise its candidates by the end of next month (January). All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and State party in-charge Gurudas Kamat on Friday said that the party leadership would announce the list of candidates in January to give adequate time to them to prepare for the Assembly polls. The application process for the ticket aspirants was already over and the names would now be short-listed by the screening committee of the AICC, he said. On the issue of demonetisation he said that the move an utter failure and most foolish decision. Kamat reiterated his party’s demand of a thorough probe of it by a Joint Parliamentary Committee and inquiry by the ED, CBI and IT in to the alleged giving of crores of rupees by Sahara and Birla groups to Prime Minister Modi. He said that his party is going to start a nation wide agitation regarding the demands.
