Bihar Government in collaboration with various private stakeholders will organiser a week long Bodh Gaya Biennale under the banner of Bihar Canvas. Participants and artists from 30 countries including Austria, Cuba, Egypt, Spain, Turkey, USA, UK, Korea, Thailand, Japan and neighbouring nations will participate in this event beginning December 17.
Giving this information here on Thursday, Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation managing director Ganga Kumar said, “Bodh Gaya Biennale is going to be a path breaking event in the world of Indian art. This event will display art forms that are not only from India but from all across the Asia.”
Kochi Biennale is the only event held in India every two years and Bodh Gaya is the second. Kumar said Bodh Gaya is an important tourist destination where millions of tourists from across the world visit every year during winter. Apart from this, he added, Bodh Gaya represented ancient art and establishment of Bihar and carried a tradition of vivid and harmony among various art forms. The art forms to be presented at the event included painting, statue art, print marking, digital art, performance art and others.
Kumar said diplomats from various countries would be present during the event and lectures by famous art critics would be held to discuss the contemporary art. Films and videos by famous artists as well as films made on science of art by known filmmakers would be screened.
‘The Biennale will also provide a platform to the ongoing cultural discussion taking place in Asian countries on the mainstream contemporary art form. This event is expected to bring the necessary momentum to the contemporary art of Bihar and our artists will get a chance to interact with both national and international artists,” said Kumar
The other stakeholders collaborating with this first of its kind event included Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation, Beverage Corporation, Pul Nirman Nigam, Grameen Sneh Foundation, ICCR, Takshila Education Society and Delhi Public School.
