The Roman Catholic Church in Goa should hold a mirror to its own self, especially when it comes to preaching about inter-generational equity, the AAP in Goa has said on Friday.
AAP’s criticism of Archbishop Fr Filipe Neri Ferrao’s speech made on Wednesday, where the religious head criticised the BJP-led coalition Government for rampant corruption, weak governance and allowing environmental degradation, while also calling for “inter-generational equity”, ironically follows controversial sale of large tracts of land by the Church itself to real estate interests promoting lifestyle and hospitality projects, including a golf course and a lifestyle project habitating an entire island near the State capital. “To my mind I would think that anyone in public service or public eye... First listen to themselves...” Rebello said.
When asked, if Ferrao should first introspect vis a vis the controversial sale of Church land for lavish to promoters of lifestyle and hospitality projects, Rebello said, “I would think so”.
