Kerala’s CPI(M)-led lDF Government will launch an extensive housing scheme, ‘Homes for All,’ and other ambitious programmes as part of its celebrations on completing 100 days in power. A meeting of the lDF leadership held in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday took the decision about the schemes to be introduced on the occasion. The lDF Government will complete 100 days of rule on Thursday.
As per the Government’s estimates, 4,00,000 houses will have to be built under the ‘Home for All’ scheme for people belonging to four categories: Those with no land or houses, those who own only land, those who live in shacks in plantation and fishing sectors and those whose houses are unlivable. The plan is to complete the scheme in a time-bound manner.
Marxist Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan explained the schemes to be initiated on the occasion to the participants in the meeting. The plan is to build flats in places where land availability is less and to construct houses for those in the fishing and plantation sectors in areas where they are working. People with no land to build houses will be provided with land also.
A Haritha Keralam (Green Kerala) scheme will also be initiated on the occasion by connecting effective waste management and organic vegetable farming. Another scheme envisaged on the occasion is for strengthening the Public Distribution System. The plan is to implement all these schemes with the support of mass campaigns.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led Opposition UDF unleashed a scathing attack against the lDF Government on Tuesday at the dharnas it had organised at the District Collectorates to protest against the “anti-people” policies of the State and Central Governments.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, who inaugurated the dharna in Alappuzha, alleged that the AKG Centre, State headquarters of the CPI(M), had turned into a parallel Secretariat under the lDF regime while former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said in Kottayam that the Government had failed to control the prices of essential commodities.
State Congress president VM Sudheeran who inaugurated the agitation in Kochi charged the leftist Ministers with issuing controversial statements with the intention of concealing the Government’s failures while Muslim league leader PK Kunhalikutty said in Kozhikode that the lDF had become arrogant with power.
