A Sub-Inspector of police, who had taken charge of his post only three days ago committed suicide on Tuesday. K Sridhar Sub-Inspector of Police at Kermeri Police Station in Adilabad district shot himself in the wee hours on Tuesday, police official said. Alerted by the sound of gun fire in the residential quarter of the SI, a servant rushed inside to find him in a pool of blood.
On getting the information the policemen reached the scene and took him to the Government hospital at Kermameri where he succumbed to his injuries. Police said Sridhar, who was a bachelor and stayed in a quarter within the premises of the police station, shot a single bullet from his service revolver in his temple.
Two additional Superintendents of Police GR Radhika and Vijayakumar conducted a preliminary inquiry in to the incident and reached the conclusion that it was a case of suicide. “There was apparently no reason for him to take such a extreme step”, said Vijayakumar.
Sridhar who hailed from Avunuru village of Mustabad mandal in Karimnagar district had undergone three months training as a probationary officer before he was posted as the sub inspector in Kermeri only three days ago.
This is the second such incident in Telangana in less than a fortnight. Another sub inspector of police of Kukunooru police station B Ramakrishan Reddy in Medak district had killed himself alleging that he was being harassed by his senior to collect bribe. He too had shot himself with his service revolver at his residential quarter after sending away his wife and two children. Reddy had served as a solider of Indian army and participated in Kargil War of 1999 before getting a discharge because of leg injury and joined the state police force.
