Woman attempts suicide at Chandni Chowk Metro

Thursday, 31 March 2016 | SR | New Delhi

An elderly woman allegedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a metro train at central Delhi’s Chandni Chowk metro station on Wednesday.

The injured was identified as 65-year-old Amarjeet Kaur. The incident took place in the afternoon, following which the woman was rushed to hospital, where she had to undergo surgery and her left leg had to be amputated, a senior police officer said.

“When CCTV grabs were checked, the woman was last spotted standing on the platform apparently waiting for a train towards HUDA city centre on the Yellow line,” said DCP (Metro) Jitendra Mani.

“We have not registered any case yet but if we found any particular fault, we will look into the matter,” added Mani.
