Two persons were injured after two bike-borne assailants allegedly opened fire outside Dwarka court in Southwest Delhi on Wednesday.
One of the injured was identified as Ankit Dagar, who had come to the court for a hearing while the other injured was identified as Arif who works as a juice vendor.
“The incident occurred around 12 pm when two persons on motorcycle arrived at gate number three of the court and opened fire,” said DCP (Southwest) RA Sanjeev. “Dagar had come to court for a hearing related to a case booked under IPC sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty)…While Dagar was standing at the gate, Arif was selling juice nearby when the firing hit both of them,” added Singh.
“The accused could not be identified by the locals present at the spot,” said a police officer investigating the case.
According to police officials, the duo was rushed to hospital. “Both are out of danger and are in stable state,” added Sanjeev.
Meanwhile, it is suspected that the duo had come to kill another person who had come to depose as a witness in a separate case listed to be heard in the Dwarka court on Wednesday. However, police team is also investigating whether Dagar was attacked by the complainant’s family. “Dagar had a scuffle with the complainant’s family on Tuesday afternoon following which he was booked under section 354,” said the officer.
Police have identified some suspects and efforts are on to track them down, the officer said. CCTV grabs are also been analysed to further substantiate the identities of the culprits, added Sanjeev.
