'Mastermind' graphic designer held

Saturday, 31 December 2016 | Staff Reporter | new delhi

The Delhi Police arrested three people, including the mastermind of the attempt to murder case of the mother of a gang-rape victim in South-east Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area, on December 29 morning, police said on Friday.

The main conspirator is a graphic designer and the other accused, Mohd Iqbal, worked as a driver of a senior political party leader in Jamia Nagar.

According to Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-east), the arrested accused have been identified as Mohd Iqbal (46), Wasim (30) and Faisal Husain (36), who hatched the conspiracy to frame Sajid in a false attempt to murder case.

The official said the accused revealed that Faisal, a graphic designer, wanted to eliminate Sajid as the latter was proving to be his competitor in the real estate business in Jamia Nagar. Sajid was arrested earlier in a case related to shooting at gangrape victim’s mother in Zakir Nagar.

To ensure that Sajid is placed behind bars for a long period of time, Faisal hatched a plan and asked Iqbal and Wasim to shoot at the mother of a teenage gangraped girl in Zakir Nagar.

Police said Faisal was well aware about the rape charges slapped against Sajid and was also aware about the fact that Sajid was putting pressure on the 47-year-old mother, to withdraw the complaint against Sajid, said police on Friday.

On December 23, police received information that a woman was shot at by two motorcycle borne assailants. The injured lady was immediately rushed to the hospital by police and was admitted in trauma centre, AIIMS, for treatment. The assailants were on a motorcycle and had covered their face to hide their identities, said police.

“During the course of investigation, police managed to arrest Sajid, main accused in the gangrape of a 15-year-old girl. After multiple raids, Sajid was arrested from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.

“On interrogation, Sajid disclosed that he has doubt on Faisal. Initially, police did not believe him. However, police mounted surveillance and local intelligence on Faisal’s movements,” said the DCP.

On sustained interrogation Iqbal and Wasim admitted that they were the main accused who had shot the lady but they had no personal enmity with her.

They also disclosed that they had attempted to murder the lady on the direction of Faisal.  On their instance, all possible hideouts of Faisal were raised and he was nabbed from near Sailing Club point in Batla house, Jamia Nagar, on the intervening night December 29 and 30. Police recovered the weapon of offence, a desi katta, along with two live cartridges, police added.
