Man held with Rs 52 lakh in new notes

Police have arrested a person in connection with the seizure of Rs 52.20 lakh in a Toyota Etios on Sohna Road on Friday afternoon. The vehicle and currency notes have been detained by police. The Gurugram Police has registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC against the person at Badshahpur police station.

A total of Rs 46.20 of the recovered amount was in Rs 2,000 notes while the rest Rs 6 lakh were in denominations of Rs 100. According to police, the suspect was picked up on Friday around 1 pm at a routine police check post near Vatika Chowk on Sohna road. The suspect, identified as Rajan Pahwa (27), was reportedly travelling from Sector-54, Suncity Gurugram, to Sohna.

When the occupant of the vehicle could not provide satisfactory answers or valid documents, the notes were detained by police. Sources said the detained person’s father had fought State Assembly elections in 2014 in Gurugram.

“We asked the person from where he got that huge amount. But he couldn’t give us satisfactory answers. We immediately detained him and later filed an FIR against him.”

“We have arrested a person related with currency notes. We are interrogating him also the IT Department has been informed. Further probe are underway,” said inspector Arvind Kumar, SHO of Badshahpur police station in Gurugram.
