A 24-year-old dance instructor allegedly strangled his girlfriend with a wire and then committed suicide by hanging from a fan on the premises of a dance academy in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai area on Wednesday.

Sachin (24), from Indore, was a dance instructor in ABC Dance Academy in Harijan basti in Neb Sarai area. He had called his female friend Yogita (24), who stayed in Chhattarpur, said police, adding that he killed her with an extension cord and then committed suicide by hanging self from a fan using the girl’s stole. There were candles and rose petals inside the room, said police.

The incident came to light around 10 am when a cleaner at the dance academy spotted the bodies and raised an alarm, following which several police teams were rushed to the spot, police said.

Sachin stayed at the dance academy and Yogita, one of the trainees, lived with her family in Chhattarpur area, police said. Police found scented candles and flowers at the spot, suggesting that the two had spent time there before the incident took place. However, no suicide note was recovered, police said.

During investigation, it came to the light that Sachin and Yogita were in a relationship and lately they had arguments over Sachin suspecting her to be involved in a relation with another person. Statements of their friends were recorded and several persons were questioned in connection with the matter, police said.

Police also suspect that Sachin had planned the incident at least two days ago and allegedly bought an extension cable for the purpose, an official privy to the investigation said.

It is suspected that the incident took place on the wee hours on Wednesday. A case has been registered in connection with the matter, additional DCP (South) Nupur Prasad said.
