Body of a 17-year-old boy was found at a railway track in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar on Tuesday morning. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Dilshad, a resident of G-block in Jagatpuri. Police said they received a call at around 8.15 am from a railways employee after which the body was recovered and sent for postmortem. Dilshad had received injuries on the head and both of his arms. His family members had also gathered at the spot. They told police that Dilshad was missing from home since last night, said a police official.
Victim’s father Shamshad Ali said Dilshad used to come home after 11 pm. He said, “When I woke up I didn’t find him in his room. Before I could ask anyone, a neighbour informed me about the incident.” Police said a case has been registered at the Anand Vihar Police Station and investigations have been initiated.
A police official said preliminary investigations suggest it is a case of suicide. CCTV footage of nearby area is being scanned to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Railway staff living near the track is also being questioned. Dilshad’s family also told police that he was upset for the last one week after a girl in the area rejected his proposal. The family originally hails from the Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh and settled in Jagatpuri for the last fifteen years. Dilshad has three younger siblings and he was the sole earner of his family.
