Delhi Assembly Secretary Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara has been repatriated to his parent organisation Prasar Bharti by lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung, days after Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel’s statement that he had given the officer a two-year extension.
It is noted that Goel had written to Union Information & Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu requesting him to impress upon the authorities concerned to relieve Suryadevara permanently from All India Radio so as to enable the Delhi Assembly to avail of his services on permanent basis.
“Prasana Kumar Suryadevara, Secretary (legislative Assembly) stands relieved from Government of NCT of Delhi and is repatriated to his parent organisation with effect from August 29 with direction to report to Directorate General, All India Radio,” Deputy Secretary (Services) Mukesh Kumar Sharma said in an order passed with approval of the lt Governor.
Suryadevara, an officer belonging to Newsreader-cum-Translator (Telugu) cadre, was appointed to the post of Delhi Assembly Secretary in July last year, initially for a period of one year. When his one-year deputation period ended this July, the Assembly Speaker had written to Prasar Bharti to extend his stay in the post. However, Prasar Bharti expressed inability to extend Suryadevara’s deputation and asked the Delhi government to repatriate him, saying it was in dire need of experienced professionals.
After this letter, Goel had reportedly written to Naidu requesting him to kindly impress upon the authorities concerned to relieve permanently Suryadevara from All India Radio so as to enable the Delhi Assembly to avail of his services on permanent basis. Suryadevara has served in the office of the lok Sabha Speaker for five years and that of the Rajya Sabha Chairman for over six years. According to officials, the post of Secretary Vidhan Sabha is for DANICS and DANICS cadre officer should be appointed at this post.
