The forest personnel of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary intercepted two Baleswar-based fishing trawlers for catching fish illegally in the “No Fishing zone” within the sanctuary.As many as 19 fishermen were arrested and 4 quintals of fish catch, fishing nets and other fishing equipment were seized, stated ranger Subrat Kumar Patra.
According to Patra, the two trawlers were Kasafala- based “Maa Sunatarini” and Balaramgadi-based fishing trawler “Nageswari.” The arrested fishermen were identified as Maya Mallick, Sanjay Mallick, Prafulla Mallick, Gopa Mallick, Sanjay Mallick, Hadibandhu Majhi, Padu Mallick, Rupa Mallick, Sumanta Mallick, Reba Mallick, Purna Chandra Mallick and Babu Mallick of Bhadrak district.They were produced before the JMFC court of Rajnagar on Thursday where they were remanded into jail custody.
