Two students drown at water-filled stone quarry

Two boys drowned at a water-filled stone quarry in Ratibad area on Wednesday. The deceased went missing on Tuesday afternoon and later their bodies were found at the quarry. According to the police at around 12 noon, the two boys left the house and never returned. The family after failing to find the two lodged a complaint with the police on Wednesday and during the search, bodies of the two were found at the quarry.

City Superintendent of Police TT Nagar RD Bhardwaj said that the two went missing in the afternoon on Tuesday and later, their bodies were fished out from quarry on Wednesday after receiving missing complaint. The two were identified as Anurag Gaud (12) and Abhisek Maran (16). The two were students. The circumstantial evidence suggests that the two went to take bath at the quarry without informing their parents and later, drowned at quarry, he added.

The bodies have been sent for the post mortem and a case under section 174 of the CrPC has been registered by the police. Police have started further investigation into the matter. Foul play could not be ruled out in the case, which could be investigated. During the search for the two boys, they were found at Agarwal stone quarry, but police are not able to confirm that the stone quarry was operated by Agarwal and no information regarding the functioning or closure of the quarry was with the police. Police said that other angles, which could be behind the deaths would be investigated. Other details could be revealed after receiving the post mortem report.
