This would become the fourth Service Selection Centre for Army and would be called Selection Centre North (SCN) as this would cater to the needs of Punjab in the North of the country.Till the infrastructure comes up at Ropar, SCN will be raised at Kapurthala as its temporary location.
Commissioning of SCN in the State is expected to help in motivating young children from Northern India to join the Armed Forces and will provide job opportunities to many beside aiding growth and development of the area. For the time being the Indian Army selects officers for enrolment through existing ten Service Selection Boards located at Allahabad (Uttar Pardesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pardesh) and Bangalore (Karnataka) following a very elaborate and stringent process lasting five days.
