Traffic police cracks down on helmetless riders in Jamshedpur

Saturday, 31 January 2015 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The traffic police has adopted a new strategy to strictly implement helmet-checking drive at the points where there are least chances of escape for the helmetless riders. Instead of carrying out the drive in front of police stations, the drive is now being carried out where the riders can be nabbed easily. In the wake of incidents of crime and road mishaps, police has launched a massive vehicle-checking drive in the city on Friday. Instead of carrying the drive at their designated places including Bistupur, Jugsalai, Sakchi, Golmuri and Mango Police Station from Friday, the traffic police carried out helmet checking drive at new points to easily nab the defaulters.

On Friday, the drive was carried at the Sankata Singh, Petrol Pump on Station Road at the middle of Jubilee Road in Bistupur, RD Tata School in Golmuri and near the ADl Sun Shine School at Sakchi. Deputy Superintendent of Police (traffic) J Kerketta pointed out that they have changed the strategy for the points of helmet checking and from now onwards, such checkings will be carried out at new points.

“The Police department will work hard to ensure that every two-wheeler rider wears a helmet, as using the helmet always reduces the chances of the road mishaps getting fatal.  We will do everything that may prevent them from meeting a fatal mishap,” said the police official. Meanwhile, police officials informed the drive has pressed a sense of alert among the people in the city. The drive is a way of alerting the people from violating traffic rules. There is nothing unusual in carrying this exercise during the year in order to teach the rules to the citizens.
