Tourists reach Dhanaulti, long for snowfall

Thursday, 31 December 2015 | Vinod Chamoli | New Tehri

Tourists from Delhi, Chandigarh, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh among others, have reached the popular tourist destination of Dhanaulti in Tehri district. Though the tourists are looking forward to celebrating the New Year amidst the natural beauty of the area, many are disappointed in absence of snowfall.

It should be noted here that the local hotels and bamboo huts in the eco-park here have been fully booked by visitors for revelries even though there is disappointment among the tourists who were looking forward to snowfall. Those who prefer peaceful and natural locales to the noise and crowd of nearby Mussoorie have been coming to Dhanaulti for some years now.

In the past, this region used to have snowfall during this period but due to climatic changes in recent years, there has been no snowfall during the new year celebrations.

This year, visitors from Delhi, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and other places have reached Dhanaulti for new year’s eve.

Neel Banerjee from West Bengal and Deepal Agrawal from Delhi said that they had reached Dhanaulti to enjoy the natural beauty and snowfall but are now disappointed due to bleak chance of snowfall here during this period.
