To understand the folk theatre form, Vihaan Drama Workers Theatre Group, Bhopal, organized a month- long theatre workshop ‘Theatrics’ for the youngsters to get acquainted with theatre better.
The workshop is being organized with an aim to understand the traditional Indian theatre art forms which were popular in ancient times. Here on Monday, the workshop was all about traditional poetry and the use of poetry in theatres
The theme of the workshop is ‘Theatrical experimentation of folk narration’. The participants of the workshop, here on Monday got acquainted with the poetry of a renowned poet Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’. The students during the workshop recited the poetries if Nirala and understood his style of writing.
Notably, to understand them better, the participants then recited the poetries by Nirala in various variations.
Through the Speech Exercise, the participants recited different poetries bringing in the different feelings. They used voice modulation tremendously while reciting these poetries. later the participants were taught basic acting exercises to strengthen their acting foundation.
This training programme further trained the students to free them from self consciousness and strengthen their concentration through sensory exercises. Students were given assignments to apply in their theatrical personality and performances. Further speech therapy, improvisation of stories, body movements, facial expression with dialogue, footwork on music along with other experimental exercises were also taught in the workshop.
Most importantly, the basics of folk art were taught through the play way method so that the students can enjoy the workshop. later, artist Hemant Deolekar, made the participants recite the poetries with the usage of Tongue Twister. Also during the workshop, Vihaan theatre group will also prepare a folk theatre production which will be staged on the concluding day of the workshop.
