Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki has said that every nation has its own nature and behaviour. And development could be achieved only when the policies were made according to the nature, otherwise there would be deformation. The first intellectual development of the human beings occurred at home and then in the society, he added.
Solanki was speaking at a function organised to mark the death anniversaries of ‘Father of Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi and one of the greatest poets, journalist and freedom fighters of the country Makhanlal Chaturvedi. He said, “Today, media has to play a great role in the intellectual growth of the human beings. Therefore, media should first understand the cultural India then transfer the knowledge to the people.”
The function was organised on the subject, ‘Role of Media in Intellectual Growth of the Nation’ by Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication where Solanki was present as chief guest. Solanki further said India was a nation built by the sages and saints and added the lives of Mahatma Gandhi and Makhanlal Chaturvedi were the reflection of the India’s culture and philosophy and therefore, it was not only India that derived inspiration from them but the entire world.
He said that American President Barack Obama always quoted Mahatma Gandhi’s name in his addresses all over the world. Senior journalist and Member of Central Film Censor Board, Ramesh Patange, while addressing the students, said four kinds of independence were important for a society for its inclusive growth — political, social, economic and intellectual.
He said political freedom had been achieved and the nation was in the process of achieving social and economic freedom and would be achieved in the days to come. But the struggle for intellectual freedom was the toughest and the most important one. Media could play a vital role in it and therefore, it should rethink how this freedom could be achieved.
While presiding over the function, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Brij Kishore Kuthiala said besides, the education imparted at schools, colleges and universities, media too played a key role in giving an intellect to the society. It was the responsibility of the media to take the intellectual level of the society to the zenith.
