The State health and family welfare department reeling under acute shortage of doctors is hoping that with the State Government extending the benefit of Departmental Assured Career Progression (DACP) to the Government doctors, the newly appointed medical officers would be inclined to join their jobs now. The department’s past experience in this regard is bad as only very few doctors actually joined their duties in the State health services in absence of any additional incentive. The Uttarakhand Public Service commission had recently selected 421 doctors for the State health services out of which 282 doctors were appointed as they appeared in the counseling process with documents. The department also provided appointments letters to 82 more doctors on Tuesday, who could not produce their documents in first stage but later submitted them.
