After tracing and rescuing about 900 missing children of the State under the Operation Smile drive in January 2015, the State police along with Women and Child Development Department personnel are now ready to launch the second version of the drive in January 2016.
After a preparatory meeting in this regard at the police headquarters here on Wednesday, DGP KB Singh informed that a month-long drive would be launched to trace and rescue missing children in two phases. At least ten teams, each comprising five members of police and WCD Department, would undertake the drive. “From January 1 to 15, the teams would look for the missing children inside the State, and from January 16 to 30, the focus would be shifted to outside the State,” the DGP said, adding that the missing children menace is a social problem and all the social welfare departments have a responsibility to eradicate it.
