The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday urged Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad through a memorandum submitted to the BSNl Odisha Chief General Manager (CGM) not to shift 220 BTS (Base Transceiver Station) from Odisha to Gwalior.
Party State president Rabi Behera said the BSNl’s move to shift BTSs would deteriorate network services in the State.
“Odisha is a rich State as far as BSNl revenue is concerned. While in other States, it is running in loss,” Behera said, adding, “In last financial year, the BSNl got profit of Rs 34 crore from Odisha. But the BSNl authorities don’t take care of welfare of consumers in the State.”
He further added that the BSNl network in the State is in bad shape. The consumers suffer from call drops, network busy, slow internet and other problems. Instead of improving such problems for the sake of the consumers, shifting of BTSs is against the interest of the Odisha consumers, he said.
Behera requested the Union Minister to stop such shifting and to expand BSNl service in remote pockets and rural areas of the State.
