The Samajwadi Party (SP) has slammed the Union Government for ignoring Odisha’s claim of drought assistance once again.
“The NDRF meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh has sanctioned a drought package of 2,033 crore to Madhya Pradesh and Rs 3,050 crore to Maharashtra. But the drought situation of Odisha was not taken into consideration. This sort of step-motherly attitude at the time of severe drought is another betrayal to Odisha,” alleged SP State president Rabi Behera in a statement on Tuesday.
Reminding that the High level Committee (HlC) had earlier declared an assistance of Rs 925 crore to Chhatisgarh, Rs 1,104 crore to West Bengal and Rs 34 crore to Manipur, he said, “Whether it is UPA or NDA rule at the Centre, Odisha has been betrayed.”
He lamented that neither the earlier Prime Minister nor the incumbent Prime Minister visited Odisha during Phailin and Hudhud cyclones happened during their regimes, respectively.
He demanded that the Chief Minister convene an all-party meeting to fight against the step-motherly attitude of the Centre.
Notably, the Special Relief Commissioner has submitted a report demanding upto 2199 crore for mitigating drought to the Central team visited Odisha recently.
