The Governor of Haryana, Punjab and UT Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki on Friday joined the people of the region, who gathered at the Chandigarh War Memorial, in paying respectful homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for protecting the unity and integrity of the country.The Armed Forces contingent sounded the last post and reversed arms, as a mark of respect to the martyrs, when the Governor placed wreath on the memorial in Bounganvillea Garden. A two-minute silence in memory of the martyrs was also observed.
During the interaction with the senior officers, family members of the martyrs and other civilians, Solanki said that there is a big scope and opportunities for them to extend their helping hand to the ex-servicemen and their families in raising the quality of life through healthcare and educational programmes. Solanki, while sharing his views with the ex-servicemen, said that we owe a great debt to the soldiers who have spent prime of their lives for protecting the boundaries and maintaining peace in the Country. It is, therefore, our moral responsibility is to give top priority for the welfare and well-being of their families.
