A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), suspected to have been planted by Maoists was found in the roadside in the proximity of camps of two security forces in insurgency-hit Kanker district on Monday.
The bomb was detected by a joint team of District Force (DF), Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)weighing around 10 kg near Gondanar village on Antagarh-Narayanpur road under Tadoki police station limits, a senior police official said.
Based on inputs that Maoists have planted two IEDs, a search operation was launched this morning to find the explosives, the official said. Around 1.5 km away from Gondanar, the team spotted the IED packed in a steel container placed on the side of a culvert, he said.
The IED was immediately defused by the bomb disposal squad. “Efforts are on to trace another IED reportedly planted in the same area,” the official said.
