Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) CEO GS Prasad inaugurated three new facilities at the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) on Monday in the presence of senior plant officials, doctors and paramedics of the IGH.
Prasad first inaugurated the New Nehru OPD Block which has come up in a conveniently located new building. The new block is connected to the old block for easy access to various departments. It has been designed to relieve the congestion faced earlier in the indoor area. The total construction area of both floors is around 15,000 sqft. Notably, the Blood Collection Centre will be relocated to the New Block for the easy access of patients and attendants.
A beautiful garden is also being developed on the front side. The CEO and all other dignitaries planted sapling in the area earmarked for the garden on the occasion.
The CEO then inaugurated the new block at the Trauma Centre which will henceforth house the Ispat Drushtidaan Eye Bank. It is a self-contained facility. It is noteworthy that the eye bank commenced
operation on April 1, 2014 in IGH in collaboration with M/s Drushtidaan, an NGO of Bhubaneswar. Initially it started only as corneal retrieval programme. On September 7 2015, with the approval from the State Government, it has been converted into a full-fledged eye bank. So far, 209 corneas have been collected out of which 158 have been implanted.
Finally Prasad inaugurated Plasma Steriliser at OT-1. The state-of-the-art equipment will be used to sterilise sensitive implements like endoscopic lenses etc.
Prasad expressed his happiness over the addition of the new facilities at the IGH and said that with these, the level of patient care at IGH would further increase thereby benefiting all the stakeholders.
