Next of the kin of labourers will be given Rs 2 lakh ex gratia in the event of accidental death during work. Earlier, Rs 1 lakh was given in such cases.This was announced by labour Minister Antar Singh Arya at a convention of construction workers here today.Urging labourers to avail benefit of various government schemes, Arya announced to increase funeral assistance from Rs 3000 to Rs 5000.Minister Arya said that in deference of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s wish, labour conventions will be held in 10 identified districts to extend maximum benefits of labour welfare schemes to labourers and ensure effective implementation of the schemes.
He informed that Shramodaya Vidyalayas for students of class VI to XII costing Rs 60 crore are being established for higher education of labourers’ children at 4 divisional headquarters Jabalpur, Gwalior, Bhopal and Indore. Arya said that registration camps for construction workers are being held at a number of places in the state where they are being benefited with welfare schemes for them.The Minister distributed cycles to 10 beneficiaries under Cycle Distribution Assistance Scheme at the convention.
He presented a cheque of Rs 25,000 to Nandini Chouhan who had secured 4th rank in class X exam of Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. Secretary SS Dixit informed about schemes of MP Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.State General Secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Sultan Singh Shekhawat, Principal Secretary labour MK Varshney and labour Commissioner KC Gupta were also present.
