Bio-medical waste of city private hospital will be disposed of at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences till the incinerators at Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad are installed by the State Government. The Jharkhand High Court was hearing a PIl on Monday, highlighting the fact that the bio-medical waste was being dumped openly in the State capital.
“As incinerator at RIMS has been catering to the half of its capacity, the court on Monday asked Ranchi Municipal Corporation to clear its stand that how bio-medical waste from various hospitals and nursing homes will reach there,” said petitioner’s advocate Rajesh Shankar. It will be a temporary arrangement till the incinerators at Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad are installed by the State Government, he said.
RIMS, during the hearing, made an oral submission that out of a total capacity of 100 kg per hour, it was using only half of the capacity (50kg per hour) of the incinerator raising no objections over the proposal made by the court to dispose of bio medical waste brought from outside.“The hospital administration demanded RMC to clear its stand how the bio medical waste will be carried to them for disposing them off,” said the advocate.
The state government has already informed the court that they have selected land for disposal of bio-medical waste and were working on the project expected to be completed soon.According to the PIl hospitals, both private and public, nursing homes, clinics, dispensaries, were perennial offenders throwing bio-medical waste on to roads, drains and in water bodies.
