Premier medical institution, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) failed to prevent nefarious elements from creating ruckus at the hospital as two doctors were brutally thrashed on Friday. Following the incident, the district administration has decided to provide more security to the institution.
The RIMS administration and police held a meeting to explore ways to strengthen security at the hospital. The arrangements are, however, temporary as any change in the security setup calls for a change in policies of RIMS.
“We discussed how we can strengthen the internal security of RIMS. Its internal security has been given to a private security provider and anything on security is a matter of policy decision. Since the Director is on leave, we will hold another meeting on strengthening the security,” said City SP Jaya Roy. The meeting was held with the acting Director as the Director SK Chaudhary is on leave. No fresh date has been fixed for the next round of meeting between RIMS and police.
The stopgap arrangement provided by police addresses security concern by increasing security presence at emergency ward. Under the new arrangement, security guards will be deployed in two shifts at the emergency ward until fresh decision is taken. However, on Friday midnight, emergency services were hit for few hours as relatives of a patient manhandled two doctors after the relatives were allegedly asked to get medicines from outside and get the patient examined outside RIMS. No arrest has been made so far.
