Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday held a marathon meeting of top officials in Naya Raipur in a bid to fine tune strategy to combat Naxalism in Chhattisgarh. Singh who landed in Raipur in evening period for a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, advised officers to speed up development projects in insurgency-hit areas which could be the best way to find out a permanent solution to leftist violence.

“All round development is the first priority in Naxal infested regions.  There is urgent need to carry out more development in insurgency-hit areas,’’ the Union Home Minister remarked at the meeting. He heaped praise on Chhattisgarh Government for ‘doing the best’ to wipe out leftist militancy and he assured all support to Raman Singh Government including providing extra troopers for deployment in red zone to take on leftist ultras.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Chhattisgarh’s home minister Ram Sevak Paikra, Chhattisgarh chief secretary Vivek Dhand, Chhattisgarh’s DGP AN Upadhyay and union home ministry adviser K Vijay Kumar were among the key personalities who attended the meeting. Meanwhile, security forces on Saturday recovered two powerful tiffin bombs from Naxal-hit Sukma district's Dornapal region where Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit on Sunday to wrap up his two-day trip to the insurgency-hit state.

"The explosives, planted by Naxals, were recovered by a joint team of security personnel near Misma village on Sukma-Dornapal route under Dornapal Police Station limits," Sukma Sub-Divisional Officer of Police, Prafulla Kispotta, said. The joint party of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and district force was patrolling Sukma-Dornpal route when they found two tiffins containing Improvised Explosive Device (IED), weighing 10 kg each, placed beneath the ground near Misma, located nearly 450 kms away from here. The IEDs were immediately defused by the bomb disposal squad at the spot, the SDOP said.

In a separate incident, Naxals torched a bus on Saturday carrying supplies for security forces after asking passengers to get down in insurgency-hit Bijapur district. The incident occurred near Dugaiguda village under Awapalli police station limits when the private bus was on its way to Basaguda from Jagdalpur district headquarter, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela informed. A group of armed cadres stopped the vehicle near Dugaiguda between Bijapur-Awapalli, and asked the passengers to alight the bus before setting it ablaze.
