Ignoring the myths surrounding the Chief Minister’s official residence at 3-Kanke Road in Ranchi, Raghubar Das finally shifted to it followed by a grand house-warming ceremony attended by several dignitaries from across the State on Friday. Das will be using the north facing gate on the backside of the house in order to remove the so-called ‘Vaastu Dosh’ of the building.
“Apart from God, I believe in my ‘karma’ only,” said Das. When asked about the changes made to the building in accordance to Vaastu Shashtra, Das, however, asserted that the changes were made after the suggestions made by his well wishers.
There is a myth in the political circles regarding the Kanke Road residence that it has not been built entirely in accordance with Vaastu Shastra’ and hence, the occupants of the building fail to complete their terms as Chief Minister. No wonder former CM Hemant Soren had chosen not shift to the house and stayed at his official residence near Soochna Bhawan.
The house built in 1854 in the regime of British Commissioner Chafford was occupied by Commissioners of Chhotanagpur Division and apart from one Elliot Dalton no occupant of the house has been able to complete more than three years in the house.
Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda had to resign after remaining in the office for merely 860 days. Similar was the fate of Madhu Koda during his lone stint as Chief Minister and remained in the office for 709 days while Munda during his second innings remained CM for only 555 days. Babulal Marandi, who was the very first occupant of CM house, could not complete full term and had to resign only after 852 days. Shibu Soren, who held the office thrice from March 2, 2005 to March 12, 2005, then from August 27, 2008 to January 18, 2009 and again from December 30, 2009 to May 31, 2010 preferred his modest Morhabadi home to the official Kanke Road residence during the first, second and third term. Similarly, his son Hemant Soren, after becoming Chief Minister in July 2013, also chose not to occupy the CM house and got his official residence renovated allotted to him in the capacity of a Minister.
Meanwhile, talking to media persons on the occasion Das said that every decision will be taken by his Government in accordance with law.
“A Government could be said to be a popular one if the officials do their work responsibly without any pressure from the Government,” added Das.
“I was a CM, I am a CM and I will be the CM,” said Das. “By CM, I actually mean common man,” he added. Das also assured that there will be no dearth of manpower in the Government offices in the next six months as the process of fulfilling one lakh Government jobs has already been started.
“The process of recruiting at least 25,000 teachers, 10,000 constables, 4,000 Sub-Inspectors as well as 14,000 ‘Kuposhan Sakhi’ (Malnutrition Advisors) for the young ladies having anemia and other deficiencies will be started in the month of February this year, fulfilling as many as on lakh vacancies of different departments in the state,” the CM added.
The CM also appealed to the Opposition and the people not to confuse the State in domicile like trivial issues as it desperately needs development. Reacting to the issue of delay on Cabinet expansion being protested by the Congress people, Das said that it was a concern of the party which will be taken care by the BJP.
