Aiming at creating more employment opportunities, the Punjab Government will emphasise on the development of technical and professional education in the State.The Government is developing the infrastructure of the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). “A total amount of Rs190 crore will be spent for providing all new and modern equipments in 76 ITIs of Punjab,” said the State Industry and Commerce Minster Madan Mohan Mittal on Monday while laying the foundation stone for new ITI building worth Rs1.85 crore at Banur.
The ITI Banur, spanning to two acres, is being constructed in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Rs2.5 crore will be spent for providing new and modern training equipments in ITI Banur, said Mittal.Mittal said that the institute management committees have been formed in these ITIs which are being chaired by renowned industrialists. “Besides the construction of workshops in ITI buildings, new theory rooms, Principal office, Staff room and toilet facilities for students will be provided,” he said.
ITI Banur, that came into existence in 1962, provides technical education in five streams — turner, electrician, wireman, tractor mechanic and embroidery and tailoring for girl students.Mittal directed the officials to introduce employment-oriented trades in the education courses.Additional Director Industrial Training Department Daljit Kaur Sidhu said that 637 new trades will be introduced in Punjab in coming five years out of which 237 trades already stands introduces.
