Chandigarh Police on Monday resorted to cane charge to disperse protestors from Dhanas who gathered at the Deputy Commissioner’s officer, Sector 17 here on Monday demanding flats under slum rehabilitation scheme.The protest by slum dwellers Dhanas turned violent when the protestors tried to enter Deputy Commissioner’s office and police resorted to use of cane charge in which around 12 protestors were injured.
Following the same protest, irked residents blocked Sector 16-10 road. Irked when asked to lift the protest, the slum dwellers also pelted stones at the cops during the protest.The protestors also included women and children. Aam Aadmi Party volunteers also accompanied the protestors.Demanding flats under slum rehabilitation scheme, the protestors alleged that they are living in the city for more than ten years but the Administration has failed to provide them with livable conditions.
