Prohibitory orders were imposed in Seoni district’s Barghat Police Station area and Saliye village following a clash between two groups and incident of ransack and arson in district headquarters.

The town was tense on Sunday even as the administration looking at the atmosphere imposed Section 144 of prohibitory orders. Heavy police forces have also been deployed.

Most of the shops and the main market remained closed.

Clash took place between two communities at Saliye village on Saturday night and as repercussion of the incident, miscreants torched vehicles and ransacked shops in Seoni town. Police team swung into action immediately and took control over the situation, DIG (Chhindwara Range) Rakesh Pratap said on Sunday.

Pratap said some police personnel also sustained injuries while they were trying to control over the situation. The administration imposed prohibitory orders in Saliye as a precautionary measure last night.

Notably, on last Friday November 20, stone pelting between two communities was reported over throwing of stone on a girl. The police then registered case against both the parties and sent three youths to jail.

The three youths who were sent to jail were released on bail and reached the village.  It is alleged that these youth first entered into stone pelting and slowly the unruly mob started gathering from both the sides, that later started ransacking shops in the Bus Stand and Kotwali areas deteriorating the atmosphere.
